Museum Acquires Rare 19th Century Daguerreotype
Augustus Washington, Portrait of John Brown, 1846/47, DaguerreotypeThe Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City, has aquired an important 19th century daguerreotype at auction for $97,750 recently, reports kansascity.com. It is one of six photos of Civil War activist and abolitionist John Brown, possibly the earliest by one of a few African-American daguerrotypists, Augustus Washington.
