The Young Photographers Alliance will hold its first Gala Awards Ceremony and Benefit Auction on Tuesday, October 13th, 2009, the evening before Picturehouse NY, at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Awards will be presented to scholarship winners by photographers – including Mary Ellen Mark, Mark Seliger, Fred Conrad - and industry professionals - Lauren Wendell, VP/Publisher PDN and Mark Randall/World Studio. The Benefit Auction will include original signed prints from international photographers, alongside new prints from the YPA scholarship winners. Artists contributing work include: Joyce Tenneson, Martin Parr, Arthur Myerson, Pete Turner, Stephen Mallon, Frank Micelotta, Jill Enfield, Jim Brandenburg and many others. Admission includes hors d’oeuvres, drinks and music from 7-10pm. The Auction will begin at 7 pm when doors open and end at 9 pm. Donation for tickets is $85 in advance and $100 at the door. All proceeds benefit Young Photographers Alliance Scholarships and other YPA programs.

Scholarship winners will also host a table at Picturehouse on October 14th for portfolio reviews, and to meet and greet attendees from the photography industry. The
Young Photographers Alliance was established in 2009 to support young photographers around the globe. The foundation seeks to provide financial aid and educational support through scholarships, mentoring, internship programs and educational seminars to enable students to reach goals they may not otherwise be able to achieve.
